In observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), the Gender and Development Division under the good leadership of Mayor Roseller H. Rizal intensified its advocacy to eliminate all forms of violence that incessantly manifest gender inequality to both women and girls who are considered as second class in the society.
The report released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (2022) explained that 1 out of 5 women (18%) age 15-49 had experienced physical, sexual, economic, and psychological abuse from their intimate partner and/or non-partner in their lifetime. Mayor Rizal audibly called the campaign a mechanism to raise awareness of violence, support human rights, and protect the victims and survivors of VAW. This commitment was widely spread to selected schools in the city.

Last December 4, 2023, Palo Alto Elementary School became one of the recipients of the advocacy. Participated by 171 Grade 6 students, the office conducted a lecture on the history of the campaign, laws and mandates, and different types of abuses that will greatly influence their future. The goal is to empower them, give them voices, capacitate themselves with necessary knowledge and understanding, spread awareness, and ensure a VAW-free community.
