Last December 11, 2023, a seminar on the Safe Spaces Act also known as Republic Act 11313 or the ‘Bawal Bastos Law’ was conducted by the GAD Office of the City College of Calamba (CCC) in partnership with CCC-LGBT Active Alliance Against Anonymity (LAGABATA) in observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW.

Ms. Jasmin P. Siman, Supervising Administrative Officer of GAD Division under the Office of the City Mayor was invited to share her knowledge in RA 11313. She discussed the committed violence on gender-based sexual harassment (GBSH) in public spaces, online, educational or training institutions, and even in workplaces.

It includes catcalling; misogynistic, transphobic, and/or sexist remarks or slurs; uninvited comments to one’s physical appearance; offensive sexual gestures; relentless requests for personal details; threatening physical safety; telling of sexual jokes; and, stalking that will likely cause individuals to fear for their safety.
Ms. Siman explained the penalties for GBSH which involved community service, Gender Sensitivity Training (GST), and a fine or imprisonment depending on the extent of the violation.
She also emphasized the seminar’s importance to students who are likely to experience harassment in their institutions.
