Through the collaborative efforts of the kind-hearted City Mayor Roseller H. Rizal and the Office of the Executive Judge of Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC), Hon. Leah Angeli Vasquez-Abad, a seminar on Gender-Fair Language was conducted at Boracay, Aklan last November 30, 2023 to December 2, 2023.
Mayor Rizal acknowledged a nuance adaptation and application of gender-neutral languages to address gender stereotyping and inequality between women and men. These obstacles became a channel for creating a seminar that is essential in articulating consciousness, reflecting on culture, and affecting socialization in terms of coherent communication.
Ms. Jasmin P. Siman, GAD Supervising Administrative Officer (GAD-SAO), provided an enjoyable yet knowledgeable lecture on sexist language to the personnel of MTCC, Br 1 and Office of the Clerk of Court (OCC) by emphasizing the importance of transforming the traditional use of language to promote gender-sensitive in the judiciary and courtrooms.
Meanwhile, Hon. Executive Judge Abad explicated the significance of the seminar as it produces useful resources for employees working towards gender fairness in courts.
As stated in the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) Circular No. 55-2022, government officials and employees are encouraged to use gender-fair language in all official documents, communications, and description (optional) issuances.
