The Internal Audit Division requested a speaker from the Gender and Development (GAD) Office for a seminar on Gender-Fair Language, specifically tailored for their workplace. This seminar took place last December 03-04, 2024, at the Shanti Wellness Sanctuary in Mayasang, Lemery, Batangas, and provided a wealth of knowledge and new insights for the participants.
Ms. Jasmin P. Siman, the GAD Supervising Administrative Officer (GAD-SAO), delivered her presentation on gender-fair language with the goal of empowering participants to adopt inclusive language practices that promote equality and respect in the workplace. Her discussion emphasized the importance of using language that avoids reinforcing stereotypes or discriminating based on gender. She also highlighted practical strategies for integrating gender-fair language into everyday professional interactions, official communications, and audit reports.
The seminar included an open forum where attendees shared their experiences and challenges in implementing gender-fair language, which further enriched the discussion. Feedback from participants indicated that they gained a deeper understanding of the impact of inclusive language on workplace culture and productivity, particularly within the Internal Audit Division, where clear and unbiased communication is essential.
