Ms. Siman provided an insightful analysis of how gender stereotypes manifest in various areas of the school system, such as instructional materials, classroom teaching strategies, learning media, and school policies. She highlighted how textbooks often reinforce traditional gender roles, with male characters depicted in leadership or professional positions, while female characters are often relegated to domestic or supportive roles. Furthermore, she pointed out how classroom dynamics may unconsciously favor one gender over the other, whether in terms of teacher expectations or participation opportunities.
Throughout the seminar, parents and students were encouraged to reflect on how gender stereotypes might be influencing their own experiences and beliefs. Ms. Simanβs session sparked a call to action for the school community to become more proactive in fostering an inclusive, equitable environment where all studentsβregardless of genderβcan thrive without the constraints of outdated stereotypes.
